I love getting lost in any aspect of creating. The fact that there are no rules is what draws me into the obsession.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I work across all types of media, but I feel most at home with ink, dipping pens, drips, splatter and thick paper. My favorite pieces carry energy and movement. I’m rarely drawn to subjects that feel polished, fine-tuned or overly happy. Most of my work is not necessarily sinister, but dysfunctional — flawed characters with maybe an abandoned identity. A lot of them carry daddy issues. Like me.
Where do you find inspiration?I follow a lot of artists that have a style I admire on social media. But I am careful to not go down the path of recreating anything or being too influenced by anyone. I am always trying to find my own and next path. I don't ever want to get stuck in a style or look, even though I know I have one. I love Ralph Steadman and Joey Feldman's work.
What would you do with $25,000?I would take my family on vacation to Costa Rica and I would buy art supplies, get lots of prints made and build up my marketing efforts so I could sell and create more work.
