I create two dimensional theatrical reconstructions of diary entries and love letters, offering form to isolation, anxiety and love.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
In my process I prefer working sculpturally, I find it more rewarding creating 3d figures and environments even though I have a background in illustration and drawing. For the final piece however I prefer flat 2d images. The power of sculpture is easily influenced by the room it is in and I don't always have control over that. Paintings retain their power (in most cases) no matter the room.
Where do you find inspiration?I refer to my diary for inspiration, writing about my life, the people I meet, those I fall in love with, the memories that have shaped me and my environment. I am also endlessly inspired by materials, whether it be clay or paint, the material drives the subject and reveals to me the wonder of the subconscious. I. am currently interested in ancient ruins and heirlooms, mythology, and the philosophy of Spinoza.
What would you do with $25,000?The 25,000 would be used to take extended time off from my day job and work very large, something I’ve been keen on doing but haven’t had the time or funds to do to the extent I would like. This would pay for a larger studio space with access to a freight elevator, power saws to build my own wood panels and materials such as clay and oil paint. I would love to build an immersive set combining paintings and sculpture and pitch this show to galleries across the country.
