My favorite type of art to create is my leather woven bags, im able to use the essence of a black ash basket in my bags. In my community the black ash baskets is held in high regards from the the world famous basket makers and the black ash splint makers. Black ash basket were used in many different ways forage for food, food storage, also they were used to trade and provide income to families and communities. I put the same love and care into my leather weaved bags while using quality leather.
Where do you find inspiration?I find my inspiration from my community, akwesasne has many talented artists in various areas. Such as singers, dancers, beaders, actresses and basket makers to name afew. The first and most popular bag I've created was to honor my daughter and her journey to the sky world. 7yrs ago I was playing around with 2 leather pieces they bowed out like a dome I became super excited few days later I added a lid and a crossbody strap.
What would you do with $25,000?What i would do with $25000 is purchase a vehicle, invest back into my business by purchasing leather and supplies.
