Shanoor’s favorite type of art to create is emotionally driven symbolic and surreal expressionist work that allows him to reinvent reality through imagination, symbolism, and human storytelling. He is especially drawn to creating layered visual narratives filled with unexpected characters, bold emotion, and symbolic imagery that explore themes of identity, memory, freedom, love, displacement, and the human condition. His work blends elements of Neo Symbolic Expressionism, surrealism, & pop art.
Where do you find inspiration?Shanoor finds inspiration in his imagination, where memory, emotion, history, and human experience merge into new visual realities. Influenced by themes of displacement, identity, love, freedom, and hope, he transforms personal and collective stories into symbolic imagery and surreal characters. His creative process is intuitive and emotional, allowing him to reinvent reality on canvas while encouraging viewers to reflect on humanity, connection, and the power of imagination.
What would you do with $25,000?If awarded the $25,000, Shanoor would use the funding to develop a new artistic movement called “Elasticism,” exploring the elasticity of human emotion, identity, memory, and perception. The award would support the creation of a new body of symbolic and surreal works, experimental mixed-media techniques, research, and future exhibitions. It would also help expand community engagement and conversations around humanity, transformation, imagination, and connection through art.
