I am currently a full-time producer of functional stoneware and dabble in thrown and altered sculpture. Clay has been my go-to medium for over a decade, but I have wanted to be an artist my whole life. I love to learn, and ceramics gives me that never-ending fascination with all the different ways you can make, decorate, and fire ceramics. I simply can't get enough! The pottery wheel is my love.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration comes from my members in my community pottery studio. They help me keep energized and creative—truly an amazing community space. My country, Canada and my hometown, Guelph, all play heavily into my art. I name most of my glaze combinations after the Great Lakes and/or other memorable Canadian landmarks that hold a special place in my heart and, therefore, in my pottery.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the money as seed money for my community pottery studio and school. I have been operating for 3.5 years now and could use this money to provide a truly amazing space for my community. A set of movable stairs would provide accessible storage space for my products and production. Having a full-time staff to help me with the studio and all the work that comes with it would be incredible and life-changing. Thanks for your consideration.
