My favorite type of art to create is pieces that help others relate to a certain feeling and shared experiences, creating a sense of comfort. I believe that art connects people through the artist's design. In this way, I love to create portraits that tell a story, but also reach beyond the canvas to evoke emotion and a sense of belonging. In my work, I layer and blend colors, stacking tones and hues to mirror the complexity of emotions and the way feelings build, shift, and intertwine.
Where do you find inspiration?I find my inspiration through feelings, interactions, and experiences. Art may feel personal, but we must understand that the pieces we create have the ability to speak volumes and can connect the viewer and the artist. Inspiration, for me, is found everywhere, in my hometown, in my culture, in facial expressions, and in the emotions I carry. I love observing life and being able to pick out colors, and elements to create something that holds meaning not only for me, but for others as well.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were to win $25,000, I would put the money toward art school. Dreams should be reached, and talents should be nurtured. This opportunity would help me grow as an artist and ease financial barriers, giving me the freedom to create, connect, and learn from others. While I hope to one day share my art with the world, I know there is still much to learn. I would also invest in materials to continue creating art that fosters connection, while sharing my work to inspire others.
