Painting is my first love. It taught me ideation, discipline, turning form, composition, color, temperature and resilience. But recently I’ve been working in ceramic sculpture which has been challenging and equally rewarding. I’m drawn to all creative mediums.
Where do you find inspiration?Reading is fundamental. It strengthens visualization. But I’m inspired by satirizing and juxtaposing the arenas of film, fiction, fashion, sexuality, gender, violence and commodification. Juxtaposing ideas that on the surface seem contrarian but actually are bedfellows in odd, unpredictable ways.
What would you do with $25,000?My mother, a young widow, raised five boys on her own on a shrinking dime. She’s older now and fading a bit. I’m her primary caretaker. I would use the money for expenses and possibly take her away. Then donations to Art of Elysium and the IRHC. And then whatever is left back into my practice (and an expensive bottle of Tequila…)
