I create as a defiant statement to an adoptive family who believed women’s roles in life were limited or predetermined. I THINK NOT!
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Pop Art, bold and defining! My art is an act of courage and rebellion. It’s a Whisper to a Scream; meant to be seen and absorbed, not to be ignored. I want my work to provoke thought, introspection, and conversation, I want the piece to anchor the room, set the mood, tell the story.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration everywhere, and in almost anything: from wandering through a Vintage Market in Jacksonville or the Chelsea Flea, to a Sunday afternoon on the patio of my favorite Savannah cafe, enjoying a glass of wine and brainstorming with my partner. Art, like Life is an adventure, I seek a loose thread and metaphorically start pulling to see what unravels, see what reveals itself.
What would you do with $25,000?If fortunate enough to be honored with the $25,000 prize I would take $10,000 to establish an Art Scholarship at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to honor “The People’s Artist”. An Art Scholarship for a deserving student; perhaps a student like me: female, adopted, maybe of mixed-race (I’m 1/2 Chinese). Bottom line, at this stage in life, I’m looking to “pay out forward”.
