Stephen L Lange Lange

I want to bridge 2d,3d& 4d Art to create an interactive work that responds & plays with the viewer. Art that isn't magic isn't memorable.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

i like to create art that the curious MUST discover the hidden secret buried within & then reward them with a diamond in the rough. For those wired for pattern recognition, a static field represents a challenge & that makes the best art. Who wants to just look at the mountain? I invite the viewer to climb it, find their own path & hide little treasures along the path to its summit.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in the small things: the curiousity of children, bits of mica & gold in the sand on a riverbank & how the light plays upon their surfaces. Human beings are more curious about the things we see out of the corner of our eyes than what's right in front of our noses. We are more curious about our dreams than the waking world. My work bridges the seen with the implied, the hidden with the found & we all need a secret message sometime.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would buy a bunch of art supplies & expand my studio. I would pay my Pop back & buy my ex a better car. I would hire my kid full time in my studio bc they love being here & deserve to exercise the muscle of talent that they've been given. I would get my teeth fixed & get some new glasses. I know that 'show business' is feast or famine & i am fully committed to this but it's been very hard since Hurricane Helene destroyed the River Arts District in Asheville. I'd get my car out of impound.
