I believe we are made in the likeness of and by the will of a creative God. Therefore, we are all creative and have something to say.

Oil on canvas painting. I enjoy creating imagery that tells a story, conveys an idea, makes a statement.
Where do you find inspiration?Literature, including the Bible, mythology; history, politics, social issues. For example, my painting "Babylon Beach Party: Was there no alarm?" features an image that seems obscure--two female lions about to pounce on a baby playing in the sand. However, it represents the threat of climate change disaster, our collective indifference to finding and especially enacting solutions to survive climate change, and its imminent threat to future generations.
What would you do with $25,000?I'm retiring this summer from public school teaching, which I've done for 21 years. I've worked consistently since I was 16 years old; close to 49 years. I'd add the award money to my retirement savings. In retirement, my plans include painting more, taking more art history and technique classes, traveling more while I can. instagram: @s.avalos20_
