I make forever steel roses. Their recipients are always smiling with joy after they get them. They are handmade and each is unique.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Metal art. Metal that is forged. Hot or cold. I really want to get into making Demascus steel. It's a mix of high and low carbon steel to make really neat patterns in metal. I built a propane forge for this and am working on a press to help shape hot metal. But in the meantime, the steel flowers have been quite successful. Not had a piece that everyone has liked right from the get-go. These flowers seem to do the trick!
Where do you find inspiration?I've actually thought about this over the last few months. I've even sent some steel roses to people that have unknowingly inspired me. Sort of a thank you. I feel that artists inspire one another. It is hard when you hit a design wall. Interaction with other people, museums, art shows, books. And even watching how to's on Youtube can be inspiring. Also, a good cup of coffee and letting your mind wander helps out too.
What would you do with $25,000?Pay off credit card debt and replace the roof on my shop. Have a few wish list items too. A 220 welder. A little giant power hammer. And maybe a nice digital camera.
