My work explores memory, migration, & environment through layered, tactile painting processes, for me silence is expansive than suppressive

I create layered abstract paintings, often on large surfaces, through an intuitive, process-driven approach. I build and erode surfaces, letting color move, settle, and resist. I work with dense pigments, fluid marks, and textured layers that hold traces of each decision. My process is physical and responsive, less about control, more about staying with what unfolds until the work feels resolved, sometimes extending into video as a way to carry movement, time, and lived encounters into the work.
Where do you find inspiration?Through lived experiences - time spent in the Arctic and coastal regions, where shifting ice, volcano, ocean and the light stay with me. Memory plays a strong role - nostalgia and trauma. Growing up patriarchal society in India, silence shaped how I held emotion; in the vastness of the Arctic, that silence begins to find a language. Conversations, environments, and the process itself all shape my work.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use part of the funds to support my practice - covering art materials, studio space, and production costs so I can continue developing new work. I would contribute to my younger cousin’s education, helping her complete her studies. A portion of the award would be donated to a cancer support organization, as a way of giving back to a cause that deeply matters to me.
