My favorite type of art to create uses color, and is about personal expression. I am especially drawn to discarded materials—old packaging, broken objects, and previously abandoned paintings and canvases. I find things in the thrift stores and by the side of the road. I intentionally paint over them, giving each piece a renewed sense of life and meaning. I see beauty and potential in everything, particularly in what has been overlooked or discarded.
Where do you find inspiration?I have throughout my life been inspired to create art and EXPRESS something within me that cannot always be described with words. I didn’t even know what it was until I started to create! Nature, emotions, and people’s sacred rituals speak to me. I am inspired by ALL cultures and ethnicities throughout the world but most especially LOVE in all its many beautiful forms. I feel intense love for all living creatures and especially so when I create.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were selected to win $25,000, I would pay all of my debts first. Then, I would buy some fans for my garage studio. Ultimately, I would be able to buy more paint and supplies so I could continue to create art which is what keeps me alive.
