Making art is a kind of speaking in tongue for me. It allows me to express how I feel about being alive and to linger in a world of color.

I love to explore painting, collage, mixed media and digital rendering. I look for a balance of beauty and darkness using abstract elements that remind me of the natural world. Sometimes my paintings are ephemeral, other times they feel muscular. I like to keep them a bit raw. I’m always searching for unusual space and a mood. Often it feels like the abstract elements are having a conversation with each other, fighting for their right to be there. My work is very interior, and active.
Where do you find inspiration?I’m inspired by the natural world. The wind, the look of water, the softness and oddity of our bodies, endless flora, the animal world, trees, the colors at night. I’m inspired by patterns. I love creating my own patterns. I’m very inspired by the power of a line. By different shapes. I love juxtaposing differences. And then there’s the world of color. Infinitely, optically delicious. I find my need to create these paintings inspiring. It never ends. It never runs out.
What would you do with $25,000?I would put it towards a residency to work in a different natural environment than I’m familiar with. I would like to visit Central or South America to work in a jungle setting which would be new to me.
