I create art because it is what I was born to do. When I was in school I did poorly but left visual art all over my work. I chose to dream.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Acrylic paint is my favorite medium, or paint over all. I find that you can’t perfectly control the outcome when you paint much like the human experience. You can only give it your best. Not to mention the textures of paint give me enrichment unlike other art forms!
Where do you find inspiration? My grandmother and mother are both art collectors. They have replicas of Diego Riveras works, Frida kahlos, and have deeply indulged me into the art history. My inspiration comes from them. I come from an immigrant family so my choice to pursue art feels like not only a personally dream but one I’m carrying out for them too. Every success and struggle feels shared. I would not be able to pursue this dream without their sacrifice.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the 25,000 to create an art space for myself, and with rotating exhibitions for local artists. It can be hard to establish yourself in the beginning and I had to think of out of the box methods to get this far. I am still waitressing to support myself while creating art. Every kind person I have met in this journey has left a life long impression on me.
