I create art to show the resilience of my people, the Aaniiih and Nakoda Tribes. I am proud to be able to represent my people through art.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I strive to create art that embodies the artistic spirit of my people. Indigenous people are storytellers. One way we can tell our stories is through art. I put small stories into the pieces I create. The emotion in a painting or the expression of traditional porcupine quilling are my favorite ways to create.
Where do you find inspiration?I draw inspiration from my homelands. The Aaniiih and Nakoda people from Ft. Belknap Montana are strong and resilient. I find it beautiful that many of our creative styles and techniques were passed through generations regardless how our culture and ways were oppressed. I am inspired by my culture.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use this money to help start a small art business highlighting the Aaniiih and Nakoda people. I hope to inspire the young artists from my reservation and to represent my tribes on a larger scale. This business would focus on paintings, porcupine quillwork, creating cultural clothing with a modern twist, and other art forms.
