I create art because it has always been my coping skill since childhood. I believe art is therapeutic, promoting healing and resilience.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Being a multimedia artist, I love art in all forms, from poetry to theater and beyond. As a visual artist, my favorite type of art to create is mixed mediums. I believe using diverse and various mediums to convey emotions, culture and societal issues brings awareness, provokes consciousness and unification. I often repurpose broken items, such as jewelry and keepsakes, for others who are grieving for their family heirlooms and memorials.
Where do you find inspiration?I find my inspiration in just living for each moment in time. Life itself is the divine art and tapestry of humanity that binds us. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse, substance abuse, mental health condition, suicide attempts and suicide loss - I have utilized my art forms and platforms throughout the years in hopes of bringing awareness, support, healing, love and encouragement to others. Art has saved my life! It is my purpose and calling to share my testimony through it.
What would you do with $25,000?As the Founder, President and Lead Facilitator of Project W.I.N.G.S - an organization that provides coping skills workshops, support groups, town halls/panels and mental-spiritual health resources for our communities - I would utilize this award to purchase a van so that I can conduct mobile art therapy services, continuing to provide free and low cost coping skills workshops/support groups and events to those in need. Creating sacred spaces for healing and fellowship.
