Art is a state of mind - part of my inner being. creating allows me to focus on the human situation making statements that can’t be ignored.

While painting and photography can translate feeling , clay translates the beginning of society. Sculpture has lasted through time, telling the story of origins, and using clay connects me directly to the earth. There’s something tactile about it-you can feel the material as it becomes form. This dry dust becomes the idea that human history is continuous- that our stories don’t disappear; they take new shape. Creating with it, l feel part of that long , ongoing human moment.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration comes from the continued human situation- from our evolution alongside the natural world and our responses to that encounter. Drawing from the political struggles of today: injustice, courage and the hard contradictions we live with. What is our story, if not the choices we make- whether we evolve to protect the earth and each other, or whether we repeat harm? When in the future our story is revived from the soil what will it say about our civilization? We must tell our story.
What would you do with $25,000?Most struggle through life. Some are at the top, doing exactly what they are meant for- while most of us work to pay the bills and keep going. By the end of the day , exhaustion and the lack of funds make creating feel difficult, when it’s what we need the most. I will build a studio : my happy place filled with natural light- where art isn’t another burden, but a space to breathe. A studio filled with the materials needed , where imagination is accessible, supported and celebrated.
