Receive Text UpdatesI create images based on the traditional motifs of Ukrainian Vyshyvanka ( embroidery,) Pysanky ( Ukrainian Easter eggs,) incorporating the meanings of traditional colours. The images are examinations of pre Christian rituals and celebrations of Ukrainian relationships to nature , to mythologies and to ancient beliefs. I create my own paper patterns using digitized versions of my own drawn out symbols. The mark making is both hand drawn and digital. The end product is a graphic.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration is found in music , both traditional and modern ethno Ukrainian. The traditional patterns used in Ukrainian clothing , in weaving, in the daily used articles of Ukrainian culture. I am constantly reading , researching and learning about my Ukrainian history and heritage. The archeological papers written about Ukraine, the ethnographic literature of Ukrainian mythology . The visual complexities of embroidery, wood cut patterns , the layering of colour and patterns used in Ukraine.
What would you do with $25,000?$25,000 would allow me to buy a new refurbished computer and printer for my studies. I could perhaps stop working at one of part time jobs to focus more time on the development of my artworks. I would also be donating to humanitarian services in Ukraine and to the Ukrainian military which is defending the democratic integrity and survival of Europe and the rest of our planet. Some funds would also be spent on development of a website for my artwork, purchase framing and matting for my artworks.
