I love making figurative, surreal and political art. By engaging with difficult and uncomfortable subjects, my work challenges silence and invites reflection, dialogue, and connection. I view my practice as both cultural documentation and resistance—using art to make stories, struggles, and truths impossible to ignore. Through this work, I seek to foster empathy, raise awareness, and contribute to ongoing conversations around race, identity, and equity, while creating space for representation.
Where do you find inspiration?I create from memory, drawing on the strength, resilience, and wisdom passed down through my mother and community. My work reflects both the beauty and the injustices within Black culture and broader society, honoring lived experiences that are frequently overlooked or silenced. Through visual storytelling, I aim to preserve cultural memory while confronting contemporary realities. I am committed to amplifying marginalized voices while addressing humanity as a whole.
What would you do with $25,000?Winning $25,000 would be a turning point for both my family and my business. I’m at a pivotal moment where my art business is growing, and this prize would give me the opportunity to turn that momentum into something lasting. With this support, I would open a studio that would be more than a place to create—it would be a space for connection, opportunity, and community. I want to bring artists together for shows, workshops, and collaboration, while also creating a welcoming space.
