I live with chronic pain and anxiety. I love to create because art gives me a place to breathe when my body and mind feel loud.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I’m a self-taught artist who works mainly in colored pencils because they feel simple, intuitive, and easy to use. I enjoy drawing female figures with long, flowing hair and blending them with nature trees, flowers, animals, and birds. My work often has a dreamy, mystical feel. Butterflies appear in almost every piece I create as a signature element that connects everything together.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from sketching fashion designs and models with long, flowy hair, a passion I had when I was a child when I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. I live with Chronic regional pain syndrome. 8 years ago I experienced a loss of function in my right hand. I can draw now but have to pace myself because of pain. Being able to create again after that experience is inspiring to me. It reminds me of my strength, resilience and fighting spirit to keep going no matter what.
What would you do with $25,000?If I had $25,000, I would purchase a car, as I don’t currently have one. I would also love to rent a space and provide free art supplies for people with any disability, physical or mental, to come and create. I’ve experienced firsthand how healing creating art is, and I would want to share that opportunity with other disabled people.
