Tayler Texas

At age 5 I began drawing portraits of old cowboys at a pool-hall my dad babysat me at in exchange for jukebox quarters to play Shania Twain.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

There’s no one style or medium I prefer. For me, the most exciting art is whatever vision or idea comes to me at 2am when the world around me is finally silent. When there’s nothing to tend to, no items on a to do list keeping my brain occupied. It’s then, when my imagination is left unsupervised, that creativity takes the reins. It’s when I get an adrenaline rush and sense of urgency and my level of excitement is far stronger than my need for sleep and I MUST get up and set to work. THAT art.

Where do you find inspiration?

I feel most at ease in a smoky ol’ dancehall or honkytonk. The ambiance from neon lights, sounds of steel guitars & the knocking of 8 balls. It feels like home. The smells, taste, and connection at crawfish boils; with seasoning letting you know if there are any cuts on your fingers. The vivid, happy, colorful works I make mirror the blended cowboy and Cajun world I’ve been baptized in. Both are cultures of loud personalities, louder music, gifted storytellers, and lively, frequent celebrations.

What would you do with $25,000?

Depends on how silly or serious I feel when I win. The responsible things like adding it to savings, using it for art, charity, my kids- which I will. But don’t act shocked if I roll up in a pimped out, bouncin’ caddy with horns on the grill, a neon sign saying “Tayler Texas” when I pop the trunk open. Fuzzy dice hangin from the mirror. Cheetah print seats. Shag carpet. Comfy backseat like in those old Lincolns. Blarin Alan Jackson holding a noise violation ticket in hand. Drivable art 🤌🏻
