I tell the stories of the women of northern New Mexico
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create tells stories. I paint large pieces so that I can use the space to weave together elements that brings to the viewer, a look into my subjects character. I use bright colors, glitter, and metallic paint to bring emphasis to the soul shine inside each story. I wish to emulate heart, spirit, and resilience in every work.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the culture and people of New Mexico. A rich cultural blanket wove together delicately with threads of strength, turmoil, tenacity, and enchantment. The women I paint are saints and sinners, full of resilience and power. They are survivors and carry the weight of everyday life with beauty. They are people who have been underrepresented in the art world and deserve to be celebrated.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the winnings to support my daughters own journey with art school. She currently attends the Institute of American Indian Arts. I am currently working 3 jobs to help support her as a single mom. I could let go of my side jobs and dedicate more time to my love of painting.
