Art has always been my saving grace, since it allows me to be seen and heard; and it is a gifted mirror of personal triumphs and struggles.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love painting because it is therapeutic, and it often pulls from deep and secretive parts of myself. I feel colors and painting allows me to manipulate what comes out with each mark of my paintbrush and through the various forms I create; it is the best mirror and genuine self-reflection. When I paint I lose track of time and often feel like I am in an extended state of prayer. My paintings are often spiritual and symbolic with an intentional focus on inspiration and luminosity.
Where do you find inspiration?I paint my dreams, things that intrigue me, and any emotions or thoughts that I cannot contain. I am inspired by personal creative challenges, like painting my first waterscape or a nude female figure. Also, I am driven to paint all the time and hope to connect one day with kindred spirits, to share our art and engage in conversation about all things ART!
What would you do with $25,000?Move to an industrial studio downtown with wood or cement floors and huge windows. Buy a large wooden easel, more paint brushes, paint, and lots of canvases. Buy a washer and dryer so I can take care of laundry at home while painting for long uninterrupted hours. Buy an iPad so I can learn about digital art and purchase apps. Attend online art classes, and donate $5000 to create a scholarship at my university for a student who is also driven to paint and create!
