Photography for me is how I share my truth as a woman; the world is diverse and beautiful and I hold the physical evidence that it is so.

I focus on photojournalism and documentary as a student photojournalist, and have a background in commercial fashion photography and portraiture. I strive to find beautiful moments even in the most horrific scenarios and make technique oriented work my focus. Everyone can tell a good story, but I can certainly tell a beautiful one.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in moments of solidarity and human collective action. I think there’s nothing more powerful than the human spirit, and when people come together to help others, you can almost tangibly see the light in their eyes brighter than the sun. I take inspiration from moments of togetherness, whether big or small, as someone that has always felt a stranger in both the American AND Slavic communities at times, as the child of immigrants. As a gay woman, my community made me who I am.
What would you do with $25,000?I would put $25,000 towards continuing my photojournalism education and setting a concrete foundation for me to meet my actual long term goal. As a child of Ukranian immigrants, I yearn to go home to Ukraine and help document the horrors my people suffer. I want to be the best person for the job before I go boots on the ground and my education will help me be the most prepared I can be.
