Abstract Impressionist. For me, painting is something of a spiritual three-way conversation between my spirit, my materials and the unknown.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I dig portraiture. I've had the honor of doing memorial portraits. From the photo, I am the filter for spirit, through me, my hands, the colored brush strokes. Any commission is fun! Keep that whimsy alive. The buyer knows the painting I produce won't be a carbon copy. I channel the energy, soak it into the pigment and canvas. It's that supernatural residue. You feel it and who knows why, that vibe you get standing in front of a Klimt or Redón. I also like freeform, letting the medium speak to me
Where do you find inspiration? In museums and libraries for those giant art books. Sometimes when I'm at the art supply store, a color, the specific shade in a tube would get the sap running. I also think of all the interesting artists I've met over the past 40 years, young and old, here and gone. I like to learn the Olde World methods to make paints, my own gesso, stretching canvas, restoring old guilded frames. I've had many teachers with tricks, tips and sage advice, like: "why is that area of that painting so precious?"
What would you do with $25,000?Find a barn to paint in. Maybe a studio in an English garden. A kiln perhaps. And the Diego Rivera denim jumpsuit, a lifelong quest for the right one, doncha know?
