What is your favorite type of art to create?

I really love creating mono-prints and then using those prints to create collages by photographing the prints, digitizing them and then cutting them and pasting them into scenes or stories. I try to merge this form of my work with my poetry so I am utilizing similar themes via varied medium to tell the same story. It has been very well received and my work has impacted many other printmakers to begin working on similar processes in their own art. Very satisfying to see this happen.

Where do you find inspiration?

A majority of my inspiration comes from a few streams of influence. By far and away nature and the out of doors is my prime influencer. Being out and in nature every day helps me to find details to the story that nature is telling. This helps me gather notions, ideas, and images that I can give voice to in my own art. Other artists; their works and their personal journeys are my other streams of influence. Digesting their complete ouvre helps me to tap into means and messages others use.

What would you do with $25,000?

I am just turned 65, resources to move ahead in my work are less available to me now then they have been. I would put part of the money toward getting a studio space close to my apartment so I can expand my artwork. I would also use part of the money to fund an artists residency in Scotland to complete a project combining both my print work and poetry. A show first, and then a book to go with the show. I have started collecting program applications for several current Scottish residencies.
