I love to create because it is one way to add to the world... the same world that I unfortunately took so much from in my younger years.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is hyper realistic portraiture, especially of older people. I love capturing the lines, pain, and enduring strength that a lifetime writes on someone's face. Those portraits let me show the subtle depth of human experience. At this stage in my life, I also enjoy abstract expressionism, because it's pure emotion, translated through paint. No words, just feeling. It's like ambient music for the eyes, letting the viewer feel without being told what to feel.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the things that bind us together, as humans, the universal commonalities in our experiences. I'm drawn to the pain, resilience, and lived stories that you can see written on people's faces and hands. Those quiet moments that show our shared humanity and remind us we're never really alone in what we feel.
What would you do with $25,000?If I win the $25,000 prize, I plan to donate the entire amount to The Art of Elysium. Their mission of using art to heal and support people in need is deeply meaningful to me, and I want the winnings to go directly toward continuing that important work.
