I create work to remind myself and others the importance of taking care of yourself; how the process of looking after you empowers you.

My favorite type of art to create consists of figurative abstractions that depict hybrid-like figures that merge human and nature elements. There are often symbolic references to plants and insects because I continue to realize that their life cycles mirror our emotional and psychological processes. Elephant leaves, for example, frequently appear as helmets, hats, or shields; their delicate yet durable nature eludes to the alluring duality between sensitivity and strength.
Where do you find inspiration?I think we all find reassurance and strength in connecting with someone or something that shares similar experiences, knowing we're not alone. For me, I find this connection by observing insects and plants. Through this research, I continue to realize we’re one in the same. Their traits and behaviors become one with my figures, telling the stories of human experiences and emotions through the lens of nature.
What would you do with $25,000?I would put the $25,000 towards artist residency programs and towards mural supplies to create large scale public artwork.
