What is your favorite type of art to create?

Art is like flavor -- I don't know if I could ever have a favorite, but there are styles and mediums that do feel like home to me. Watercolor was the first class I took to intentionally build my skill as an artist and I learned that it is also one of the least forgiving mediums out there. However, there's beauty in setting an intention about paint placement, and then seeing that go horribly wrong, but drying into a beautifully unique blossom. Letting go is my favorite type of art to make.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find everyday adventures inspiring. Artists are given the gift to find magic in the mundane and bring an intimate understanding to others even if the subject is extremely ordinary. When we're able to highlight simple, universal experiences such as waiting at the public bus stop, fishing in the river, or tending a garden, our art does something. From my end, I can illustrate my dad's favorite fishing spot and from your end, a special memory is activated and you feel the need to pick up the rod.

What would you do with $25,000?

Honestly, my dream is to share my flamingo original characters with the world. I see myself becoming the next 'Franklin the turtle book series' or comfortably sharing space with Hello Kitty at the store. I want to strive for accessibility and positive impact that all ages can appreciate. I need support and motivation, encouragement and my loved ones by my side to make this dream come true. $25,000 would be an incredible catalyst to making this project/dream a reality sooner rather than later.
