I express the natural world through landscape and memory. I convey the rhythms and forces in our immediate environment and its degradation.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love making extra large paintings and immersive installations that allow the viewer to step into the work. My paintings are nature based abstractions, exploring the idea of landscape and memory. Color is a big part of my work- it conveys the overall feeling I want to express. Multiple part installations and their obsessive quality, convey urgency, ie, Garden of Eden installation, 2006 Devils Tower in Close Encounters, 100 Paintings for 100 Years, 129 National Monuments in Monumental.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes first from the natural world, often what I see and experience myself, living in Colorado and traveling a lot. I am also interested in environmental issues, such as glaciers, water, forests, etc, and finding a way to express the necessity of caring for and respecting the environment. Social issues are also a resource for my work as I weave together my personal experience with universal experience to create a powerful narrative.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25,000 I would create a body of work speaking to the most pressing issue of our time, climate change. It would be big, bold, and inspirational. It would be an installation so compelling that people would understand the urgency of our current state and act to mitigate it. I will procure an exhibition venue, get publicity, and invite artists and leaders to visit and interact with it. My voice as an artist is only so big, but it is what I have; with the funds I could shout and be heard!
