My goal is to investigate my native Caribbean background, and to share its rich cultural experience with the world

My work often crosses with figurative painting and drawing, as the work largely touches on representation and identity, my stories are told through the context of utilizing figures arranged in a familial layout to communicate the then dialogue between the viewer and the visual image itself.
Where do you find inspiration? My making process involves utilizing archival video stills which I sensitively review and dissect in my research to reinterpret the eventful mood and emotion that I freeze in time while adding or subtracting from the original reference. My work stems from my lived experiences in these settings. I often re-live the experiences vicariously through the figures while drawing and painting them using oil, oil pastels and acrylic paints.
What would you do with $25,000?With 25,000$, I would purchase a few rolls of unprimed linen canvas in different textures and weights so that I can work bigger and deeper. I would also purchase some new hog hair brushes as they are destroyed after 2 finished large sized paintings. With the remaining sum I would get a plane ticket to Trinidad & Tobago to document Carnival for research on my next work in progress series titled “Carnival” which is another extension of my over arching body of work titled “Caribbean Renaissance”.
