Sculpture is the most satisfying medium I’ve worked in, especially with reclaimed materials; I love to transmute what was discarded as garbage into a story untold. Refusing to let refuse be meaningless, reframing it into expressions of the refusal to identify as discardable is why I love sculpture. Lately, however, most of the work I’ve made is two-dimensional since my workspace can’t accommodate my sculptural aspirations; my first loves in art, pen-ink and printmaking, are my next fortes.

Situational awareness is the essence of my inspiration. Every environment I move through moves through me, and we are worth expressing by whatever means available. The lineage of creators, my ancestors dancing on the Milky Wave, the Northern Cheyenne Way fills me with creativity. Living the story of my life, heritage, and culture inspires my storytelling as a strong woman artist.

With this funding, I’d acquire a studio to build sculptures and attend trainings to become more prolific in the three-dimensional creative space. I’d also put some towards travel, to experience new cultures, other places, and meet new friends and family. Through my travels, I’ll explore the cultures to be the change.
