The act of creation is integral to my connection with life. Working with stone is grounding. It is meditation. It is peace.

I have experimented with many meduims. But my true passion is working with stone. The raw, ancient history revealed in each piece of stone, the unending variety of textures and colors is fascinating to me. And to have the privilege to shape this ancient medium into something useful and esthetically appealing is centering and deeply satisfying. I sometimes feel that each stone is calling out to me, waiting anxiously to be transformed into something new and beautiful.
Where do you find inspiration? Many of my pieces are inspired by ancient Native American technology and sculpture. Although, rather than forcing the stone to conform to a predetermined style of ancient reproduction, I often like to allow the stone to show me what form it wishes to take. So my designs are often somewhat more fanciful than strictly practical. Mostly, I draw my inspiration from nature, and strive to emphasize with each work our collective connection to the ancient world and the common ancestry that we all share.
What would you do with $25,000?I would like to build a dedicated studio space that would allow me to focus my efforts in developing and sharing my art without cluttering up our garage or wasting time in the continual setup and then breaking down of equipment for storage. I would like to eventually open up this studio to host free classes in flint knapping and various other types of stone work to youth groups, scouting, or church and community outreach programs.
