I make works which intersect art, architecture and queer modernism celebrating form and color. I also run a non-profit supporting artists.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I work with fiber and clay-based materials to create sculptural forms that investigate and reinterpret the physical structures of painting. By translating traditionally flat, pictorial elements into three-dimensional objects, my practice examines how surface, texture, and composition can exist beyond the canvas. Situated within a framework of queer modernism, my work engages with and unsettles dominant narratives of modernist abstraction.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in often overlooked and under recognized forms of labor, particularly the work and objects produced by marginalized communities. The materials, tools, and processes used to create everyday functional objects deeply inform my sculptural language and approach to form. I’m drawn to the ingenuity and resourcefulness embedded in these practices, as well as the histories and bodies they carry.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25,000 I would build out my ceramics studio into to a fully functioning workspace, giving me the ability to expand both the scale and scope of my practice. This investment would support essential equipment, improved infrastructure, and dedicated areas for forming, drying, and firing work, allowing for a more consistent and ambitious production process. A fully equipped studio would provide the stability needed to develop larger, more complex sculptural pieces.
