Viviana Pizarro

Creating art has always been about releasing the soul. When the soul runs too deep, it can unravel into chaos.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Music, and painting have always been at the top of my list. There’s no greater feeling than the literal electricity that bleeds from someone’s emotions through voice, sounds, colors or the movements of a brush stroke.

Where do you find inspiration?

My inspiration stems from the limits of being in my own body. The need to escape into something bigger than myself is a desire that drives anything I do. Emotions, thoughts or ideas that are too large to fit within me fuel the need to bring something to life. Something to relate to, or to just let it live.

What would you do with $25,000?

There are many ideas I would have for this prize money, but like art… the outcome is usually unpredictable no matter how you prepare. A goal of mine has always been to start an art therapy program. Specifically in juvenile detention centers, hoping to guide youth and allow a safe space for them to release their emotions.
