Art has been a large part of my life since I was a child.Making art is an act of discovery, a search to express things greater than myself.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love to paint and am drawn to the ability of abstract imagery to express the universal spirit of humanity and to reflect spiritual principles like beauty, creativity, patience and perseverance. Much of my work deals with symbols, patterns and marks. I generally work in series. Sometimes I incorporate other mediums, such as new pastel, Prismacolor pencils, and collage into my work.
Where do you find inspiration? An author I once heard speak, talked about writing as filling quiet time, and said it was like digging a well and waiting for it to fill with water. I was struck by this description of the creative process and relate it to the way I work. My process is organic: I don’t wait for inspiration or carefully plan a piece with preliminary drawings, I just work and intuitively guide the piece to its completion. In this way, my art is the product of working with dynamic interactions and complexity.
What would you do with $25,000?I would be able to apply to venues beyond the Bay Area, build up my supply inventory, work in larger formats, hire a studio assistant to help me move and hang larger works, and have funds to ship work and build my practice.
