For me, the visual is the purest form of communication. It can create a human connection by communicating a feeling, an emotion or an idea.

Glass, I love working with glass. It has the unique ability to be transparent, opaque and translucent. Working with glass is working directly with light. I am excited by how light is it is filtered through glass, and the mystery of how it modulates color. In my practice I thrive on inventing new methodologies to manipulate glass in new ways that express a feeling or an idea. Often located in public spaces, I love that it exists in the real world to surprise and engage a diverse group of viewers.
Where do you find inspiration? In my public artworks, I find inspiration through context. I explore the history, the sociocultural milieu, and the architectural space of a specific location. I present viewers with a unique and unexpected perspective of that context. I continually challenge myself to ensure that in doing so, the finished work satisfies my artists intentions.
What would you do with $25,000?The funds would allow me to carve out some time, away from my public art projects, to create more personal, smaller, scale artworks. Amongst other things, they would explore my ideas about the various dichotomies within the humans experience. They would be bold, witty and without external restrictions.
