Receive Text UpdatesMy love and focus in pottery are face jugs that are both mystical and a celebration of emotion. From the earth with understanding I form my pieces with the idea that no two should ever be alike. From the expressions of the piece to the hundreds of different. Glazes and techniques they become an individual. Both decorative and functional , they are a celebration. Some of my works have a ceremonial aspect as well as a respect for other cultural art. My name is mud.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the old world potters before me as well as the long history of the southern face jugs made by potters who came to America from the Congo in the 1700s. I’m also inspired by people I meet and most of all the music that moves me in my studio. Music takes me to a place of focus and creativity.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the prize to update my pottery equipment and do more to promote my art to others. It will also give me the opportunity to focus on more complex pieces . I will also continue the historic facejugs for further inspiration.
