Art helps me pause, process the world, and return to joy. My children create beside me, reminding me daily what it means to be human.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art is work that feels alive in its process, art that holds layers, movement, and the evidence of time. I’m drawn to pieces where you can sense the push and pull between control and surrender, where materials are allowed to speak and evolve rather than be forced into a fixed outcome. I’m especially connected to abstract and mixed media work because it creates space for interpretation. It invites the viewer to slow down, to feel something rather than immediately understand it
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from being inside the process rather than searching for something outside of it. It often begins with a feeling, a moment of stillness, or even resistance, and unfolds as I work. I’m inspired by the tension between control and letting go, and by the way materials move, react, and sometimes take on a life of their own. Allowing space for the unexpected is an important part of my practice. My daily life also plays a role, especially motherhood.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were awarded $25,000, I would use it to support both my own development as an artist and to create opportunities for other women, especially mothers, to reconnect with creativity. A portion of the funding would go toward childcare support and access to classes and materials for my own practice. These are real barriers for me, and having that support would allow me to fully focus, grow, and expand what I am able to create.
