Wilma Mehl

As someone who is usually very organized and tidy, I’m drawn to the contrast—pastels can be wonderfully messy.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I believe Mother Nature offers the most extraordinary references, and my goal is to capture the beauty that surrounds us through my work. My photorealistic pastel paintings focus on seascapes and landscapes.

Where do you find inspiration?

I live near Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada, where the ever-changing moods and colors of the water are a constant source of inspiration for me. Traveling to different countries also inspires me deeply—the rich and varied color palettes of our beautifully diverse planet fuel my creativity.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would love to have a small art studio/gallery in my garden—a space where I can create and showcase my work. It has always been a dream of mine. Nothing fancy—just a quiet place for creativity and solitude.
