What is your favorite type of art to create?

Performance and the archive inform my practice. My favorite type of art to create is the intertwining of photography and video, creating emphasis on memory and self reflections. In the contemporary moment, my video works are more personal and reiterate my struggle to remember certain moments in my life. This physical process then translates to the digital realm as I rewatch and replay specific archived videos.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from my relationships, often dwelling in what they mean to me and how they affect me in my creative process. People who see close to you can either support you or neglect you and it’s up to the artist to sit with that and what it means to be cycled within your craft. There are some great video artists, performers, and visual artists that I look up to: Bruce Yonemoto, Casey Kauffman, Lesley Krane and so many more that it is crucial for personal growth to be exposed to others.

What would you do with $25,000?

$25,000 would marry and meet my sacrifices I have made so far as a broke college student and artist striving to enter the art world. As a photographer and visual artists, the stereotypes relay messages that there is no true struggle. This prize would generously assist my goals and hopes to expand and explore my potential in other public art displays or large formatted works that is not attached to a university. Thank you.
