My favorite art to create is pet portraits, because animals have a special soul like no other. When I create a portrait of a pet that has passed, it gives an opportunity to look into their eyes once again. I practice several mediums, including colored pencil, Pitt pen, watercolor and graphite. Graphite was the first medium I drew with as a young child, and to this day it remains my favorite. My hope is to capture a moment in life and let the memory tell the story.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration is not something I have to search for, because it finds me, often in the most unexpected moments. I am inspired by beautiful scenes in nature, but also by tragic and horrifying moments. Art does not just make this world more beautiful; for me, it makes the painful parts of the world more bearable and gives me the strength to persevere. It is easy to create when life is easy. I take pride in being able to create, and even thrive, in the heart of pure chaos.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were blessed to win $25,000, I would invest it in furthering my art journey. It would allow me to upgrade my supplies and materials, create a studio space of my own, and teach children art. I would also use it to bringing one of my dreams to life: creating an illustrated children’s book I wish I had as a child.
