Connect What is your favorite type of art to create?

My favorite work is driven by intuition, when I am less artist and more witness to the entire process. These pieces generally end up with bold lines and colors, with small nearly hidden details throughout which tend to appear to the viewer out of nowhere after living with the piece for a while. I loved painting in oils on very large canvases, but out of necessity have transitioned to smaller work on paper in recent years. My process was once described as "following lines no one else can see." 🖤

Where do you find inspiration?

Within myself. Making art has always been a form of therapy for me, in that I am able to work through various hardships and struggles while sort of zoning out and letting the work come together on its own. Sometimes the art is representative of whatever I am dealing with, sometimes it isn't, some have been prophetic in their storytelling, recently even by nearly 4 decades. Sometimes I am not inspired at all, just working discipline and skill like muscles that can't be allowed to atrophy.

What would you do with $25,000?

I have been disabled without income for over 6 years. 25k would help me catch up on my somehow-still-a-little-intact mortgage and make repairs to the property on issues that have compounded over the years. Bring my defunct studio back to life. Get wheels again - my car was my independence. Take another cross-country road trip and make my "Talking to Strangers" documentary this time.
