I love to create art becuase it allows me to form connections with others and myself.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I primarily work in mixed media. However, recently, I’ve been stretching myself and trying new things this year. I’ve made a large scale sculpture, which is the biggest piece I’ve made. However, my biggest accomplishment is the leather belt that I wood burnt this year because it’s the one of the first wearable art pieces that I’ve made.
Where do you find inspiration?I get inspiration from everywhere. Sometimes I get it from movies, my idea for the belt piece came from the movie “Into the Wild” and the inspiration behind my monkey pieces were monkeys from different films. My inspiration for my sculpture portrait came from artist Marisol Escobar, who I studied earlier in the year in my advanced art studio class. I’m also inspired by my peers and family to create pieces that I know they can relate to so my loved ones feel represented in my work.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use $25,000 to help my parents pay for my college tuition. I know they’ll do whatever they need to do to pay for my school but I want to be able to help them and not be a financial burden. I don’t want to be a source of stress for the people I care the most about in this world. So this money will go to my parents.
