As both an artist and someone who works closely with kids through teaching and art therapy, I've seen how creativity can help people heal, connect, and feel seen. That's why the mission of The Art Elysium really resonates with me. I love the idea of using art to bring comfort, hope, and human connection to others.

Mrs. Howell, Art is a verb, in my life. The reciprocation of art in the places that are neglected heavily, brings a tear to this combat veterans eyes. After being removed from my home at 15, due to religious reason, and joining the US Army, and then loosing both my half pinoy children to the state of AZ, and then incarceration, I rely on art to soothe all that is wrinkled in my life, and others lives also. Generosity is key, and throughout my war torn life, I always assisted anyone not ok.

For 17 yrs(2002-2019) I was the creative director for a non profit Art Walk for kids/adults in Santa Barbara County. We were outreach and had many programs in schools, hospitals, retirement homes/alzheimer and created with At Risk kids and incarcerated teens. Art truly saves lives I know firsthand as I taught the workshops to 1000’s.

Working in healthcare for 20 years and mental health services for 12 I have directly witnessed the impact art can have on a meaningful recovery. Art bridges gaps words fail to, self expression in a form as transcended by the creator to send a vision or message to be shared with others. My grandmother on my father’s side has been in the care of a nursing home for a while now. The last time I visited her, she had been coloring a picture of a tucan so intricately, it made me wonder if she missed seeing me and my family working on paintings and drawings. All I could think about was providing her with something new to draw with, or an outlet to make her feel more at home, as I know I can’t visit her all the time. I think we all deserve artistic expression.
