I love to create art because it lets me translate thoughts and emotions into something visible, something I can hold, share, and revisit.

Learn MoreWhat is your favorite type of art to create?
My favorite type of art to create is character-driven illustration—art that tells a story through people, expressions, and emotion. There’s something deeply satisfying about bringing a character to life from nothing but an idea. Whether it starts as a rough sketch or just a feeling in my head, the process of shaping a personality onto a blank canvas feels almost like discovering someone new rather than simply drawing them. What draws me in most is the ability to communicate without words.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in the quiet, everyday moments that most people overlook. It’s not always something grand or dramatic—in fact, it’s usually the opposite. A tired expression on someone’s face during a long bus ride, the way light filters through a window in the late afternoon, or even the silence of a room after a long day—these small, subtle experiences tend to stay with me. They spark ideas that slowly turn into something visual, something I feel the need to create.
What would you do with $25,000?
With $25,000, I would finally breathe life into the next chapter of my work as an artist and alchemist—turning accumulated pain, memory, and raw Chicago grit into something transcendent. No more scraping by. This sum isn’t just money; it’s oxygen for the forge. First, I’d secure a proper studio. My current space is a converted corner of a Logan Square walk-up that doubles as kitchen and storage. For $8,000–$10,000, I’d rent and outfit a 600-square-foot light-filled industrial unit.
