It is all about play as the antidote to all of the chaos and oppression that is happening in the world. I can never know what will happen in the studio but finding the antidote is what drives my studio practice.

My work I can discover where I am and who I am. Helps me connect in a purposeful way with other people. We are losing that connectivity. Very importantly in my own house I ask am I truly connecting with my family are they connecting authentically with me? I try to express through my work the importance of sensual understanding. Each white canvas is my purpose- the language of going deeper into my own sensing field builds up my inner language of knowing inner truth- my past, present and future.

I think what helps me. The best is letting go of certain expectations or outcomes with whatever it is that I’m creating and doing it for the sake of creating I think before I was doing it to create something ““ cool and now it’s more or less just because I enjoy creating regardless of any identity on whatever it is that is being created

I find that 99% of what I do creatively is directly connected to my state of mind in that moment. I have done work that wasn't working with whay I was wanting to convey. A year later I see it again & say wow! This part was X or Y & start seeing where my head was when I did it. Often I can make a few adjustments & there it Is. I agree with as the world evolves so do we, & ultimately feel so grateful that others can see things I don't. When I miss my mark it can be a bullseye for someone else.

Staying creative is like a muscle that I constantly need to work. It’s not always easy but I have learned over time consistency is more important and helpful. I’m not always inspired so I just try to get out and do it without thought in the beginning. So experiences and music help me. Also even if I’m not actively working on a piece I’m journaling in my notes app ideas or talking to other artists. Sometimes doing things that have nothing to do with art influences my creativity.

I'm drawn to the structures beneath perception, the lines and rhythms that connect what we see to what we sense. Each piece is a small quantum leap: from surface reality into the deeper dimensions that shape it.

Hello Mark Mothersbaugh, I appreciate this recent video you posted on, "why experimentation and letting go are the heart of the creative process." I can relate before I start having sort of crazy ideas, thoughts that might be outrageous, controversial or offensive. I begin to mix the paints chosen randomly and start with a black or white 16 x 20 or 12 x 17 canvas. All of a sudden my mood changes and how the paints are poured, brushed or blown usually with a straw then become alive and flows.

Growing up I was always told that I had a big imagination. And could come up with anything creatively. I don’t know it was always easy for me to be creative. Think outside of the box. Let the box creat it self. Thinking of new way to get that specific detail or stroke.

As a writer, I get a thought, an inspiration, an idea for a story. Based on that I setup a structure or a framework to hang my writing on. Starting with a good "hook" I can begin the story. Then, as I write, I loose the Muse and let the story go where it will and many times it winds up somewhere unexpected. And that opens up a whole new realm of ideas. Other times, it sticks to the original script, and that's okay too, because I was trying to make a point. I do like a happy ending.
